Why politics matters to marketers
The world has changed, and marketers need to change also
Marketers have always treated our target audience as individuals, but the social group we belong to defines us. That hasn’t mattered a lot until recently, but now as our environment has become more polarized, it does.
When you don’t understand the implications of your target’s political worldview, you are missing a key part of their lives. Today that worldview has become political. And your brand can run into a marketing landmine if you trigger something that you don’t know. But if you do understand it, you can use what they think in a way that can benefit the brand, emotionally branding your product.
